Straight as an arrow

There has been a question about whether Ryan's spine is straight. We've had family members note it (in the form of a question) and I brought it up to Ashley, Ryan's physical therapist, to get her thoughts. She could tell that his spine looks a bit crooked, but couldn't tell if it was positional, based on the way he was sitting, or whether it was a form of scoliosis. We had a pediatric well check shortly after that, and I had our pediatrician take a look at Ryan's back. She had the same thought as Ashley. She noted that if Ryan's spine wasn't straight, it was only slightly curved. She thought we should get X-rays done to check out his spine, just to make sure!

We went to the orthopaedic center for an appointment today and got x-rays done. It was quick and easy and the x-ray portion only took about 5 minutes or less.

The result? Ryan's spine is straight! The doctor we saw noted that Ryan's spine is probably straighter than his! No scoliosis. :)

He did say that scoliosis can occur later on in childhood and teen years, but for right now, Ryan looks great. He said that from an orthopedic standpoint, Ryan looks perfect. His tone is good, his bone structure is good and he said the only hold up that he could see is whether Ryan will gain the cognitive ability to progress developmentally - walking, for example. All good news for us! We will go back in January for a follow up, but otherwise all is good with Ryan's orthopedics.
