New sleeping arrangement

Remember how I said that the Neurologist told us at the hospital that Ryan should sleep in the room with Thomas and me moving forward, since his two seizures have both happened around sleep time?

Well, Thomas had Ryan's crib broken down and moved into our room before Ryan and I ever came home from the hospital this last time - read about the last seizure and hospital visit here and here. Ryan's been sleeping in our room since he got home.

We had to run out and get a video monitor to put on Ryan in our room. We only had one monitor that stays in the nursery. With our new video monitor, we can keep an eye on him while he's napping and then the time between when he goes to sleep (7:30 - 8 pm) and when we come up to sleep for the night (10 - 11 pm). He doesn't cry or make sounds when seizing, so the sound-only monitor was not going to be an option. It's gives us peace of mind to be able to see him through the video.

It's been an adjustment for all of us. Poor Ryan was waking up every night when Thomas and I would come up for bed a few hours after he went down. It seemed like he had a hard time falling back asleep and was more interested in looking at us and smiling, which I can't resist and couldn't ignore.

Now that more time has passed, he's getting more used to it and doesn't wake up when Thomas and I come to bed anymore.

It's funny because the nursery seemed so crowded with all that furniture (3 cribs, 2 dressers and a nightstand), but it's actually a decent sized room. Now that we only have 2 cribs in there, it feels bigger and more spacious. And yes, you read that right - we're still in cribs. I'm still undecided about next steps, but think I will probably skip the toddler bed and move straight into full or twin beds sometime in the future. But I am going to hold off as long as I can. Procrastinator.

Only 2 cribs in nursery now!
