Ryan has a new speech therapist. Her name is Barbara and she started working with Ryan at the end of January. His previous speech therapist, April, mentioned a few times that she felt that Ryan's needs were a little past her scope of experience. Ryan's Early Interventionist had been calling around to try to find another speech therapist with an opening for him and we got connected with Barbara. Barbara has a lot of oral motor experience and can help with Ryan's eating and drinking. She's full of energy and makes therapy fun for him.
We've been working on cause and effect, object permanance (meaning if you take an object away and put it out of sight, that he would still know that it's there and go look for it) and imitation - both sound and motor imitation.
I sprung it on her and put her on the spot when I asked whether I could take a few pictures during her last session with Ryan. Bless her heart - she was a good sport and looked great anyway!

Barbara is so sweet and has some new ideas and things that we're doing with Ryan. I hope we can post about lots of new sounds, words, and improvements that Ryan makes with his speech. We're excited to have her on board with us and looking forward to continuing to get to know her.
