Last week I was in Buffalo for work. My friend, travel companion and co-worker, Stacey, and I decided that we needed to go see Niagara Falls for the first time. It's just a short 30 minute drive from Buffalo and another co-worker of ours volunteered to take us and show us the ropes around Niagara. We had to wait until it wasn't quite so cold up there, so we hadn't been in our past visits to Buffalo during the winter and spring months, and even brought our passports on this trip with us.
We drove up to the Falls one evening after work and crossed over the border into Canada. Really the Canadian side of the Falls is prettier and there's more to do. We didn't stay long - just drove in, parked, walked through the gift store and out to the park/walking area and wandered around for about 30 or 45 minutes. After we had seen enough, we hopped back in the car, drove back to Buffalo and had a delicious dinner at the
Griffon Gastropub. It was super delicious and a really fun night!
In case you haven't been to Niagara Falls, it really is quite amazing and stunning to see in real life! The American side doesn't have much to see. There is a lookout area that seemed cool, but we didn't get out of the car over there so I only got to see it from the bridge to Canada. There is one large casino that looks so out of place because it's just standing there by itself without much around. The Canadians have made a beautiful park with gorgeous flowers to attract tourists. There are casinos, hotels and restaurants all around the area. It has a better view of the Falls just from the sheer logistics of where they're located. There are all sorts of tours you can do - the Maid of the Mist, a boat that goes around the bottom of the Falls; the Jet Boat, which goes through the rapids above the Falls and allows you to look at the Falls from the top; a tour that allows you to walk behind the water; and several other options. We didn't do any official tours this time, but will probably add that into our itinerary for future Buffalo trips! I loved seeing Niagara Falls and am "all aboot" the Canadian side (said in a true Canadian accent! :)
